From a platter of starters and pâté de campagne to grilled aged beef loin, wine and dessert, palette814 offers plenty to choose from. Here’s how to make the most of lunch and dinner.
〒179-0085 Tokyo, Nerima City, Hayamiya, 1 Chome−44−22 palette01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
At palette814, part of the pleasure of a bistro meal is choosing dishes one by one and building your own progression from starters to a main course and something sweet. If you’re not sure where to begin, try the Palette Variation platter: it brings several starters together on one plate. Other options for sampling a little at a time include pâté de campagne, white-liver pâté and the quiche of the day. One diner recalled ordering pâté de campagne, followed by soup, a fish dish, Japanese Black Wagyu sirloin, baguette and chocolate gâteau. Even without deciding on a set order in advance, they found the meal unfolded like a course dinner.
For a main, choose from grilled aged beef loin, chicken confit or BBQ-grilled spare ribs. The menu works for sharing several starters, or for a solo dinner centred on a meat dish. The diner mentioned above also remembered the generous serving of vegetables alongside the main, with both raw and cooked vegetables to enjoy. Drinks include draft beer and wine by the glass, as well as wine by the bottle or carafe. Choose a glass to go with dinner, or a bottle for a more leisurely meal.
At lunch, the Palette Lunch is a good way to get a feel for the kitchen: it brings together around 8 chef’s-choice dishes, with salad, homemade focaccia and baguette. It suits anyone who would like to try a little of several things. Other choices include hamburg steak, chicken green curry and croque madame. Some dishes come with a choice of bread or rice, while the curry is served with a choice of naan or rice, so you can decide according to what you feel like eating. For dessert, there are options such as custard pudding, Basque-style cheesecake and canelés, as well as coffee. It makes for a lunch that can linger through dessert, or a sweet finish to dinner after a glass of wine. In Hayamiya, this is a place to keep in mind when you want to put together a relaxed meal at your own pace.
